New all-weather sports surfaces

Bangor City Football Club together with Bangor University are celebrating the launch of their new state-of-the-art artificial turf football pitch.

Constructed by Blakedown Sport & Play at Bangor City's ground in Nantporth [The Book People Stadium], the new 3G pitch will be home to the club and university teams as well as being used by neighbouring football clubs and the local community.

  • Client: Bangor City Football Club
  • Contract Type: JCT Design & Build
  • Contract Value: £400,000
  • Build Time: 14 weeks

Blakedown started work on this full size, high-specification 3G pitch in April 2014 and finished in time for the new 2014/15 season. Accredited both to FIFA 1 Star and FIFA 2 Star performance certification, the Edel Future DS 3G turf was laid onto a Dynamic stone base and pre-formed foam shockpad. It was then completed with heavy duty fencing and an eight column floodlighting system.

The project was jointly funded by the Football Association of Wales, Bangor University, Sport Wales and Bangor City Council, and will ensure that all users can keep training, whatever the weather, even during winter months.

The opportunity to work with Bangor City and the FA of Wales on the all-weather pitch was an excellent opportunity to not only work with our community partners but also ensure that we give our students the best training facilities all year round. With this facility we can start to offer students more events including 5-a-side leagues.

- Richard Bennett, University Sport Director

We are very grateful for the University's substantial contribution to this project, without whom it wouldn’t have been possible to secure funding from the FAW. With all parties working together we can now expand our junior and women’s football schemes as well as providing a training facility for a range of local clubs.

- Dilwyn Jones, Chairman of Bangor City FC
