Brecon Leisure Centre
Astroturf Pitch & Refurbished Running Track
Blakedown Sport & Play were employed by the Powys County Council to transform an old Redgra sports surface into multi-sports all-weather pitch at the Brecon Leisure Centre in Penlan. The development required the installation of a new drainage system and engineered tarmac base, a new rubber shockpad, and laying the selected playing surface: a sand-filled (astroturf) sports carpet.
Client: Powys County Council

To complete the pitch, Blakedown also installed new perimeter weldmesh fencing system, a floodlighting system, and seamed in sports markings for two cross-play 7-a-side football pitches as well as the main hockey layout.
In a different project, Blakedown also undertook complete refurbishment of the leisure centre’s athletics track. These works included thorough jet-wash cleaning of the surface, full-depth repairs, a polymeric re-texturing with porous EPDM layer, and new line marking of the eight lanes and sprint straight set to IAAF standards. Minor repairs to field athletics facilities and some sports equipment was also carried out.
