Blakedown Sport & Play have installed a new state-of-the-art 3G pitch with fencing and floodlighting for Broughty Athletic Football Club in Broughty Ferry.
Working for the Dundee East Community Sports Centre, a community hub project comprising local football, rugby, cricket, tennis and table-tennis clubs, the new facility is situated on an old, 'green field' site next to the Douglas Sports Centre in Dundee. The top-soil from the construction was displaced to another of the client's sites and used to form a spectator mound. Perimeter and lateral drains were installed and connected to a new soak-away providing the new 3G pitch with an appropriate drainage solution.
The selected 3G artificial turf was Edel's Superblade 60 laid onto a Dynamic stone base. A double-membrane layer was also laid underneath the artificial turf to protect the backing material from excessive wear-and-tear. Five metre high twin-bar fencing was installed around the perimeter of the pitch, with 1.2m high super-rebound panels to allow for re-bound sports to be played with minimal damage sustained to the fencing. Upon completion of the works the surrounding disturbed area was re-levelled, seeded and made good to complete the facility.
