Blakedown were employed by Southwark Council to install a full-size 3G artificial turf football pitch at Burgess Park in London. The project involved removal of a worn-out multi-use facility and complete reconstruction of the foundations. A dynamic stone base was laid and the playing surface selected was Edels Nature 52mm sports turf for football. The pitch also has three cross-play mini-football pitches separated uding divider netting.
The facility was specified to meet all of the Football Association’s performance standards for outdoor artificial turf sports surfaces and adhere to FIFA’s Quality Concept for community football facilities. To complete the project, Blakedown installed a new floodlighting system and 4m high heavy-duty perimeter fencing that was incorporated into a retained 200 year old stone wall that was originally part of an old brewery once on site.
The facility was officially opened by the Mayor of Southwark, Simon Hughes MP, and the footballer Anton Ferdinand.
