Eagle House School
Hockey pitch, courts, and carpark
Blakedown were employed by Eagle House School near Sandhurst, Berkshire to construct a new sports facility for hockey, tennis and netball. Eagle House is set in the grounds of Wellington College where Blakedown have also been contracted to build a top-specification sand-dressed hockey pitch and a block of new tennis courts.
For the Eagle House facility, the school tasked Blakedown with finding a surface that can not only serve as a sports pitch, but as an overflow carpark for school events as well. A half-and-half solution was devised with one section of the allocated space being surfaced with tarmac – used for tennis, netball, and as a carpark - and the other section surfaced with sand-dressed artificial turf for tennis, netball, and hockey.
Client: Eagle House School
Contract: JCT Minor Works
Build Time: 7 weeks
The final facility footprint was 90m x 55m allowing space for three netball and three tennis courts on each surface. The project was completed with 3m high weldmesh fencing and a divider netting system to separate the tarmac section from the turf section. The tarmac surface was then sprayed with a green acrylic performance coat.
David Stygall, Bursar at the school, said of the project, "We are very happy with our sports pitch installation completed by Blakedown who achieved all of our unique requirements. Their team were very friendly and professional and have delivered us a first class facility. We would definitely use them again."
