Blakedown Sport & Play were awarded the contract to completely refurbish a cracked and rundown tarmac games area at Ravenscourt Park Outdoor Sports Arena in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
The contract was awarded via the Sport England 'Places People Play' framework, of which Blakedown are approved framework contractors.
The existing surface was removed and the whole site was prepared for a new layer of tarmac. As well as providing an area for general recreation, the construction includes a new full-size basketball court and a full-size netball court situated either side of a central metasequoia (dawn redwood) tree.
Both courts were sprayed with a green-coloured non-slip acrylic sports paint and lined with white markings. Fixed hoops were also installed for both sports. To complete the project, a new timber-framed seating area was built around the redwood, with other timber benches installed around site.
The new facility was partially funded by Sport England through the local authority: Basketball England had sought a local authority partner for the project with the vision of establishing an outdoor ‘Basketball Arena Legacy Facility’ in unison with Adidas and the National Basketball Association.
Location: Paddenswick Road, Hammersmith, West London, W6 0UA
