Blakedown were contracted by the Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council to construct new sports facilities at five different schools in the area.
The Oldershaw School: Works included the complete excavation and reconstruction of existing grass football pitches, installing a new drainage system and raising the overall level of the playing field. A synthetic cricket wicket and batting cage was installed, and a polymeric long jump straight with landing pit.
(Blakedown have since returned to the school, now Oldershaw Academy, to complete a new sand-filled multi-use games area.)
Higher Bebington Junior School: The project included extensive land drainage works to a grass football pitch, a new polymeric long jump straight and landing pit, and soft landscaping works around the school.
Rock Ferry High School: Blakedown carried out excavation and drainage works to a number of playing fields, installed a long jump straight and pit, and completed landscaping around site.
The Mosslands School: Blakedown constructed four 30m x 18m tarmac multi-use games areas with fixed goals and sprayed the surface with a non-slip acrylic coat. Sports lines were also laid out for tennis, basketball and mini football.
Clare Mount Specialist Sports College: Blakedown constructed a 30m x 18m sand-filled ‘astroturf’ multi-use games area with weldmesh fencing and timber kickboards.
