Woodcote High School
Athletics track ready for the Olympics
Following a competitive tender procedure Blakedown were very pleased to have been awarded the track and pitch construction works for Woodcote High School in Surrey. The project which was many years in planning finally got off the ground one week before London 2012. The scheme included a new 8-lane all-weather athletics track with floodlighting and discus cage, plus new grass football pitches and landscaping works.
Client: London Borough of Croydon
Client: JCT Design & Build
Build Time: 16 weeks
The previous grass playing fields were unlevel and prone to flooding during winter months. The redevelopment ensures that pitches can be used all year round. The athletics track will also be used by local athletics clubs such as the South London Harriers, and football teams such as Woodmansterne Hyde FC will use the grass pitches.
Mark Southworth, head teacher at the school, said: "After two years in the planning, I am thrilled to see these superb athletics and football facilities completed. There are very few schools in the UK that have such wonderful sporting amenities and the local interest has been huge."
Location: Meadow Rise, Coulsdon, Surrey, CR5 2EH
