Blakedown Sport & Play were extremely pleased to be chosen from a competitive tender process to construct a new top-specification sand-dressed hockey pitch and transform a large horse paddock into rugby pitches at Haileybury - a 'Top 100' independant school in Hertfordshire.

For the hockey pitch, a Lano 'Hockey Revolution' sand-dressed sports turf was chosen, laid onto an 'Engineered' base (porous tarmac layer) with 15mm in-situ shockpad.

Blakedown also installed hard-wearing weldmesh perimeter fencing with wooden kickboards and eight 15 metre high floodlights. The new pitch was tested by independant consultants and passed FIH (International Hockey Federation) Class 2 National accreditation.

In addition to the hockey pitch, Blakedown also transformed a 23,000 square metre horse paddock into rugby pitches. An archaeologist was present on site during the excavation of topsoil due to the age and history of the area. A 2 metre 'balanced cut and fill' was carried out and specialist machines were used to dig trenches for the installation of a new drainage system.

The pitches were sewn with high quality sports grass seed, fertilised, and given twelve months to establish before Blakedown sprayed the sports lines and installed the rugby posts.
