Framlingham College

Sand-dressed pitch construction

Blakedown Sport & Play recently completed the reconstruction of a full-size hockey pitch at Framlingham College in Suffolk, enhancing the facility with a modern, high-performance surface. The project began with the removal of the old carpet and shock pad, followed by the planing off of the existing 40mm tarmac base.

Blakedown then modified the existing drainage system and carried out soil stabilisation work before installing a new 40mm engineered tarmac base. A 15mm in-situ shock pad was added for added player comfort and safety. Finally, the pitch was resurfaced with Edel ID sand-obscured carpet, complete with line markings for 11v11 hockey, ensuring it meets the requirements for both training and competitive play.

The project was a successful collaboration with Framlingham College, and it’s been fantastic to see students quickly taking advantage of the new pitch.
