Sports Facilities Construction
Client: Kenilworth School and Sixth Form
Contract Value: £1.7m
Build Time: 17 weeks
Location: Kenilworth, Warwickshire
Blakedown Sport and Play constructed over 20,000 m² of natural grass pitches, two full-size 3G pitches meeting FIFA quality standards, and over 5,000 m² of Tarmac Courts.
Our works commenced on the courts – two 64m x 36m Macadam MUGA’s and a 32m x 19m basketball court – completing the groundworks, tarmac surfacing and line markings. The larger MUGA’s were secured with a 2.75m high chainlink fence and have an eight column 400 Lux LED lighting system.
This was followed by the natural grass pitches and an artificial turf cricket wicket. Works included primary drainage, soil profiling, sand amelioration, and seeding. All pitches were maintained over a 12-month establishment period ensuring a top-level playing standard all year round.
Next came the 3G Pitches and spectator areas, involving extensive groundworks, tarmac bases, 15mm insitu shockpads, and 40mm 3G sports surfacing to FIFA Quality & FIH Multi standards. Each pitch is line marked for both football & hockey and associated works include 4.5m high super rebound 8/6/8 fencing and 200 Lux LED Floodlighting .
To complete the contract, Blakedown undertook further lighting works around the perimeter of the grounds.
