Cardinal Newman Catholic School

3G pitch Construction

Blakedown Sport & Play worked to complete a state-of-the-art, sustainable sports facility for Cardinal Newman Catholic School in Brighton, designed to support excellence in sport while prioritising environmental responsibility.

At the core of the development is a 3G synthetic turf pitch, certified to both World Rugby and FIFA Quality standards. This high-performance pitch features biodegradable BrockFill infill, new floodlighting, and secure perimeter fencing, ensuring a safe and durable playing environment.

In addition to the pitch, Blakedown delivered a range of supporting infrastructure, including:

  • Eco-friendly changing facilities featuring a green roof to promote biodiversity.
  • First aid and office accommodation to support day-to-day operations.
  • Custom-built storage for essential sports equipment.
  • Wildlife protection measures integrated across the site.
  • Criblock retaining walls and future-proofed EV charging points to support sustainable transport initiatives.

Elsewhere on the school grounds, Blakedown relocated and rebuilt four cricket wickets, alongside the construction of a dedicated minibus car park, enhancing access and usability for students and staff.

Sustainability was a key driver throughout the project, with a focus on biodiversity and environmentally conscious design woven into every aspect of the scheme.
