Kingsland Secondary School
Sports Facilities Construction
Contract Value: £1.8m
Contract Duration: August to October 2022 and February to May 2023
Blakedown oversaw the installation of a high-quality full-size 3G pitch, a multi-use games area (MUGA), and natural pitches at Kingsland Secondary School.
The construction of the 3G pitch involved ground excavation, drainage, geotextile membrane, subbase, kerbs, and a tarmac layer. A 15mm in-situ shock pad was then installed, followed by a FIFA-approved Edel Flashblade 40-15 3G surface with SBR performance infill. A 3m high Twin Bar 8/6/8 fence was also installed around the facility to ensure security.
The MUGA consisted of the same groundworks as the 3G AWP. However, this facility was surfaced with a two-coat porous tarmac sports surface marked with four netball courts.
Lastly, the project involved managing a vast area of natural grass pitches, which required creating a temporary haul road for access. Extensive earthworks were performed, including vegetation removal, topsoil stripping and stockpiling, subsoil import and spread, and additional topsoil importation for precise levelling. A comprehensive perforated land drain system was installed for efficient drainage.
