St Cenydd Community School

3G Pitch Construction

Blakedown Sport & Play were appointed to design and construct a new World Rugby and FIFA Quality 3G pitch at St. Cenydd Community School in Caerphilly. The project was delivered in partnership with Caerphilly County Borough Council as part of the school’s wider commitment to enhancing sports provision and developing an inclusive, year-round community facility.

The scheme was a complete new-build development undertaken by Blakedown’s in-house team. The works began with extensive site excavation and full groundworks before progressing to the installation of a kerb system, stone base, and engineered tarmac layer. A Trocellen shock pad was laid, topped with a Desso IQ3 60mm 3G surface with SBR infill to meet the performance standards required for both World Rugby and FIFA accreditation. Complementary elements of the project included the installation of new perimeter fencing, an advanced LED floodlighting system, and full line markings for rugby and football. The scheme was completed with landscaping and finishing works to ensure the new pitch was seamlessly integrated within the existing school site.

The completed 3G facility provides a durable, all-weather surface designed for both rugby and football, built to governing body standards. It delivers consistent year-round playability, enhanced player safety and performance, and improved accessibility for local schools, clubs, and community groups.

This development has created a modern, high-quality sports hub that strengthens the link between education and community sport in Caerphilly. By supporting increased participation and promoting physical activity, the facility will contribute to the sporting and personal development of students and the wider community for years to come.
