Glenthorne High School

Blakedown Sport & Play was appointed to deliver a comprehensive upgrade of the external sports and recreation facilities at Glenthorne High School, transforming the school’s outdoor environment, creating modern, secure, and versatile spaces to enhance sport and recreation for students and staff.

The works included the construction of four new multi-sport courts, using a mix of 4G and needlepunch surfaces to support a range of activities. The existing courts were refurbished with associated fencing, bringing them up to the same high standard.

A key element of the scheme was improved site security. Blakedown installed perimeter fencing, secure access gates, and its innovative fence roller security system, along with pitch lighting, CCTV cameras, and electronic gate entry systems, ensuring safe and extended use of the facilities.

The project also enhanced recreational spaces, adding four outdoor table tennis tables and a quiet seating area with two large canopies. A new main access route with integrated bench seating improved circulation and comfort throughout the site.

Finally, a natural grass area was converted to leisure grass for year-round use, and the car park was upgraded to improve access and capacity.
