Sutton VA Primary School

Blakedown Sport & Play completed the construction of a new multi-use games area (MUGA) at Sutton VA Primary School, delivered in partnership with Vertis Buildings. The development reflects the school’s ongoing commitment to enhancing sports provision and creating high-quality spaces where pupils can engage in physical education, recreation, and active play.

The new MUGA was built on previously undeveloped land within the school grounds, transforming an underutilised area into a dynamic sporting facility. Works began with extensive earthworks and ground preparation, ensuring the site was fully stabilised and ready for construction. A porous polymeric Type 4 surface was then installed, providing a durable, all-weather playing surface designed to accommodate a variety of sports. The project also included the installation of new perimeter fencing to enhance security and ensure player safety, as well as the addition of clear line markings and supporting infrastructure for multiple sports and activities. To further support the school’s sporting needs, a dedicated storage area for equipment was incorporated into the design.

The completed MUGA offers a versatile and resilient facility suitable for a wide range of sports and activities. It supports both curriculum-based physical education and extra-curricular programmes, giving pupils greater opportunities for exercise, skill development, and teamwork. The surface’s all-weather capability ensures consistent use throughout the year, providing a safe and engaging environment for pupils of all ages.

This project has significantly enhanced Sutton VA Primary School’s outdoor sports provision, creating a vibrant, multi-functional space that encourages active learning and supports the physical and social wellbeing of its pupils. The new MUGA stands as a lasting investment in the school’s commitment to promoting health, activity, and enjoyment through sport.
