Queens Park Community

This project showcased the successful completion of a new build 3G football pitch, which was opened by Ian Wright in May 2023.

The project included groundworks, drainage, a stone subbase, and a tarmac layer. New 4m fencing, floodlighting, and a durable Edel Flashblade 50-14 playing surface with sand and performance SBR infill were also part of the project. Additionally, a dry flood basin was constructed around the pitch to prevent flooding, and an acoustic wall was added to adhere to planning regulations.

The grand opening was attended by many students, staff, families, and supporters. The PE staff from the school organized a great range of inaugural matches, with some of their female teams kicking off first. Ian Wright appreciated watching their quality football until he got drawn into signing shirts, footballs, and playing cards. Giovanna Torrico (PTFA Chair) took this 3G pitch project from an initial vision in 2018 through years of patient planning, fundraising events, and writing bids that raised nearly £200k towards the project.
