Sand-Dressed Hockey Pitch Construction

Client: Reed’s School

Contract Value: £470,000

Contract Duration: July 2021 – November 2021, with additions finished by March 2022

Blakedown Sport and Play were awarded a contract with Reed’s School to reconstruct and resurface a full-size hockey pitch and delivered it to FIH Category 3 national standard.

The construction began by removing the old GEN 2 sand-dressed surface and shockpad, then breaking up the original macadam surface and raising the edgings by 150mm.

The exposed base was then filled by laying a geogrid and importing 100mm of type one aggregate. A 40mm macadam surface was added to ensure the long-term stability of the facility.

The remaining three sides of fencing were replaced, and a spectator recess was created using gabion retaining walls.

A new 15mm in-situ shock pad was then installed with a high-quality blue Polytan Poligras Superplay sand-dressed FIH approved carpet. Sports markings only included hockey lines as this was the client’s priority, and lastly, floodlighting was installed.
