The Racecourse, Northampton

Blakedown Sport and Play were awarded a project to refurbish the existing courts at The Racecourse in Northampton.

Blakedown undertook the works, which, when completed, provided the park with a vibrant new facility for basketball.

The works carried out to refurbish the courts included a full tarmac overlay (25mm of 6mm sports surface laid onto the prepared base). The base was chased at its outer perimeter, drilled, backfilled for drainage, and power-cleaned prior to a tack coat application.

Blakedown also constructed the new seating recesses so that, in poor weather, there would be minimal transfer of dirt from the surrounding area onto the courts.

The courts were color-coated in a basketball 3v3 design in various colors. The existing hoops were also refurbished, with new backboards and benches installed.

Finally, new floodlights were also installed to allow play to continue as the evenings wear on.
